Summary of Crime The California Department of Justice is assisting law enforcement agencies, from nine states, in the investigation of an ongoing armed robbery series known as the McDonald's "Roofman" robbery series. Approximately 42 robberies and 5 attempted robberies have been committed. While McDonald's restaurants have most often been targeted in the series, Blockbuster Video, Toys R' Us, Burger King, Home Base and three grocery stores, have also been victimized.

The suspect usually makes a hole in the roof and enters the building through the attic. The suspect confronts the employees either before the store opens, or after it closes, when there are no customers present. The suspect has always been armed during the robberies and although he threatens victims with a handgun, and shots have been fired, no one has been hit. It appears, in some cases, that the suspect has walked or run approximately one half mile or more before getting into a vehicle.

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the "Roofman" robberies.
